Some tips:

The total capacity of each individual model is shown beside each model number.
A platter-head ratio is shown next to the total capacity tag in brackets. It works very simply: a (3/6) ratio indicates three disks and six read/write heads. Models that "waste" some amount of their actual total capacity in order to fit into certain capacity brackets (such as a 320GB unit based on one 500GB platter and two heads) are marked accordingly as [short-stroked].
Miscellaneous details of possible interest (unusual rotational speeds, strange marketing decisions, and so on) are noted if deemed necessary.
The Caviar (later rebranded as Blue) line are WD's mainstream bread-and-butter product, standardized to 7200RPM by ~2003, while the Caviar GP (later rebranded as Green) introduced in 2007 offered much higher capacities at the cost of decreased RPM. Eventually, using these lines as a base, WD released several families intended for DVRs and 24/7 surveillance: the Purples, AVs, and (long-discontinued) Performers. All of these + older budget models in the Protégé family are covered on this page.
"Nearline" 3.5" WD drives (RE, Black, etc) are listed on a separate page.
As of late 2015, WD has decided to merge the Blue and Green families. Blues with the Greens' 5400RPM spindles and multi-terabyte capacities have since come available.

Note: The WD15EARS and WD20EARS models with -xxS8Bx and -xxJ2GBx identifiers share the same quad-platter case, but the WD15EARS ones apparently contain one less platter anyway, given the STRs exhibited in HD Tune screenshots I've seen. (Though it may be something weirder, like four platters and six heads, enabling both the usual 500GB/platter performance and the use of platters that are defective on one side.) The WD15EARS-xxZ5Bx models, in contrast, use the "proper" tri-platter case, and, accordingly, WD20EARS-xxZ5Bx models don't exist. This sort of variation seems common throughout WD's product line, not only concerning Greens and higher-capacity models.

Meanwhile, the WD20EZAZ is definitely one-disk, given that it apparently weighs ~446 grams, right around how previous one-disk models weighed (the reviewer there guesses it employs shingles, also).
